The Razorback Iron Project is a large low grade, high tonne magnetite project in the central portion of the The Mawson Iron Project and is the flagship of Magnetite Mines Limited. The Project is located 250 km NNE of Adelaide, South Australia and is located central to existing infrastructure. The Project is surrounded by the towns of Yunta, Peterborough and Burra. Magnetite Mines began work on Razorback in late 2009 and is well underway in developing one of the largest iron ore projects in Australia, with over 3 Billion Tonnes in Resources.
Razorback Iron Project has several significant advantages over other Magnetite Projects:
- Ore body outcrops, thus minimal to no overburden
- Low Mine Stripping Ratio
- Soft Ore compared to conventional magnetite projects, thus lower comminution costs
- Close to existing infrastructure and deep water
- Simple geology
Magnetite Mines completed Resource Definition and a Prefeasibility Study in early 2013 and is currently optimising several of the study parameters to improve the financials of the project.
